We were in Hanover last week to attend Domotex 2018 – what a great opportunity to see what new trends are emerging and this year, what we saw was quite different to those displayed in previous years. With a move away from white and grey finishes, which have been very popular over the last year, we noticed a lot of both natural and darker products.
Wide boards and long lengths were a key feature in many manufacturers displays, some promoting solid oak boards at impressive lengths of 3m by 300mm width and oak cassettes, including metal work and intricate patterns. Lots of them pre-made in a square meter board, ready to lay in both solid and engineered.
Hydro finishing and air dried oils look to be on trend. Hydro finishing is a process our Crag and Contour floors go through prior to being finished with an Osmo Polyx ® Hardwax Oil and air dried oils can be applied to our unfinished oak flooring to achieve this effect.
We saw lots of internal wall cladding similar to our Weathered Mixed Species, with boards made to look weathered and aged using layers of oils and contrasting colours.
