Work on our new Research and Development hub is well underway. The design utilises our previous sawmill site and the building will sit adjacent to the Russwood office, offering views towards the Feshies and Cairngorms whilst addressing the North-South railway line.
The original steel frame has been retained and extended, creating ample space to house an R & D facility, staff breakout area, expanded flooring store and a new flooring showroom.
The development will take the form of a U-shape with a partially enclosed courtyard designed to not only display and test various decking, but to also link the various elements of the building together.
The external cladding will utilise timber fins alongside seamless roof and wall elements installed with flexibility in mind, allowing for testing and future experimentation. With a view to decommissioning our original sawmill, we are still sawing on-site in Newtonmore.
Our new sawmill building houses a powerful new horizontal 4-head Wood-Mizer and a vertical Stenner bandsaw which will increase production capacity and cut lead times. The additional space created in the move has also allowed us to construct a dedicated tool room and a new break room for production staff.
We hope construction will be completed late Autumn 2017 and we will be sharing updates along the way.
