Yes, we sell SiOO:X in 3, 5 and 25 litre tubs, as well as 250ml sample pots. These can be purchased through our online shop.
Detailed instructions on how to apply the two-part SiOO:X system can be downloaded here.
SiOO:X coated timber is largely maintenance free, with an optional recoating cycle of between 10-15 years. In many instances, exposed timber will have taken on a naturally weathered appearance by this time and therefore reapplication is not necessarily required. If over time, algae or dirt forms on a surface, boards can simply be rinsed using the concentrated alkaline SiOO:X Maintenance Wash diluted with water. Maintenance wash is available through our online shop.
Following the vacuum coating process boards will typically go darker, ranging from their original colour through to a dark apple-juice brown, dependent on species. Over time, boards will then lighten once exposed to moisture and humidity in the atmosphere.
SiOO:X coated timber will weather to a consistent light grey driftwood appearance.
From our experience the activation process requires exposure to the elements for approximately 10-14 weeks before timber will take on the desired colour. Unfortunately we do not have sufficient space or resource to allow timber samples to weather to the desired light grey tone – we simply wouldn’t be able to meet demand. As an alternative, we sell 250ml sample pots of SiOO:X through our online shop which can be hand applied to timber samples and left to weather on-site.
Yes, SiOO:X can be applied to both sawn-face and dressed-face timber, however sawn-face boards allow for better penetration.
SiOO:X products may etch if spilled onto metallic surfaces or glass, therefore it is important that these are masked and protected. If spills occur, simply dry up with a wet cloth.
SiOO:X can be used on all species of external cladding and decking that we supply, except Accoya®. In Sweden, SiOO:X have extensive successful experience of application on pressure treated softwood decking. When using dense hardwoods such as Garapa or Oak it is often preferable to let the surface weather for anything up to a year which will allow the surface to open up, allowing the SiOO:X to penetrate better.
Yes, however sheltered areas will take longer to turn fully grey. These areas can be soaked with water and rubbed with a soft brush to speed up the crystallisation process. This may be repeated several times.
Currently, SiOO:X cannot be used in conjunction with any of our recommended fire retardant solutions such as HR Prof or Non-Com®.
