Garapa is supplied in an attractively consistent golden brown colour which, when used in conjuction with Sihga fixings, will weather to an attractive shade of silver/grey.
The fine, close grain and knot free appearance make it perfect for projects which require a clean, contemporary look.
The specification for Garapa decking is as follows;
One of the primary benefits of Garapa as a decking material is that it is incredibly durable, boasting the best natural durability properties of all of Russwood’s decking products. Unlike most commonly available decking timbers, it is naturally durable, being rated as Class 2 (Class 1 offers the highest level of durability, through to Class 5 which is not durable).
This natural durability is the result of resin and extracts in the wood, combined with a high density, which ensures that the wood is resistant to rot, decay, splinters and insect damage. This is of key importance when considering a decking material, as a hardwearing timber is required in order to ensure the long-term safety of the deck, regardless of its environment and level of footfall.
It is expected that Garapa decks will have a lifespan of more than 40 years when used with DielenFix®.
Russwood’s Garapa is kiln-dried to 16 – 18% (+/- 2%), the optimal moisture content for external decking. The benefit of kiln drying Garapa, as opposed to air drying it, is that the timber dries uniformly and therefore achieves optimum stability.
Once the Garapa is kiln-dried, this enables machining of the product to achieve a superior finish. It is then ensured, through the use of stringent quality control processes, that the optimal moisture level is retained until delivery to site. The decking can then be installed immediately upon delivery.
Garapa is Russwood’s most dense timber, being classified by BS EN 350-2 as approximately 875 Kg/m3 at a moisture content of 18%. As such, it is impact and scratch resistant and therefore is ideal for high traffic areas such as bridges, hotels, retail outlets and other commercial properties.
Due to the natural durability and beauty of Garapa decking, it is generally left untreated to weather to a beautifully consistent shade of silver/grey. This weathered appearance can be accelerated and enhanced by using SiOO:X.
The way a decking board is fixed and detailed can have a major effect on it’s lifespan. For more information, click here.
GripDeck® is a highly effective slip-resistant solution which can be applied in-house to our Garapa decking. The specially bonded aggregate inserts provide an attractive and long-lasting solution to slippery decking, being rated as “extremely low potential for slip” (BS7976:2002 Part-1 3 using the Stanley Pendulum Test). GripDeck® is particularly desirable for bridges, stairs, ramps, forest walkways and commercial environments such as cafes, pub gardens, shopping centres, parks, marinas and fish farms.
Two GripDeck® strips per decking board will provide excellent slip resistance in both wet and dry conditions.
Russwood’s Garapa is FSC®-certified, meaning that it is sourced from well-managed forests.
The standard Garapa decking profile is 25 x 145mm double profile. This board is grooved on one side and reeded on the other; as the deck can be laid on either side this allows you to select your design preference.
Garapa decking is supplied in various lengths from 1.85 – 4.85m. (Please speak to our technical team to determine current stock availability). Please note that decking is supplied as a linear meterage based on random stock lengths at time of picking order. Other sizes may be available on request.
All boards are supplied in a standard thickness of 25mm; this is considerably thicker than most commonly available hardwood decking in the UK, which is commonly sold at 21mm.
Garapa is an exclusive decking product which is priced from £58 per m2 excluding VAT.
