What is Crag Oak flooring?

Crag Oak is a range of modern pre-finished flooring with a band-sawn appearance. Available in solid or engineered, Crag Oak floorboards are brushed and then scored across their width to produce a band-saw-like finish; scores are deepest and most distinct at the edges of the boards and become less prominent towards the centre. The oak is coloured with specially formulated hydro-stains before being finished with an Osmo Polyx® Hardwax oil. This creates an appealing variation in tone between the horizontal scores, brushed springwood and harder summer wood.

European Oak is widely considered to be the finest available worldwide due to it’s attractive colouring, figuring and durability properties. All Russwood oak flooring originates from the same highest quality raw material, making grade selection purely an aesthetic preference.

Which grades are available?

The Crag Oak Flooring range is available in Character, Prime and Prime Plus grades, all of which feature boards which are carefully hand graded and selected to your specification.

Character Grade

Ideal for naturally inspired interiors. The beautifully prominent figuring - a mixture of heartwood, sapwood and large, hand-filled and brushed knots - illustrates the true, rustic nature of this premium timber flooring.

Prime Grade

Clean, contemporary and incredibly stylish. Each floorboard has been carefully selected to ensure that the beautiful figuring of the Oak is highlighted but, only small pre-filled and brushed knots are present.

Prime Plus Grade

In addition, we offer a Prime Plus grade where only exceptional boards with occasional pin knots are selected from our prime grade. This is a truly special product which is subject to raw material availability.

Which colours are available?

Crag boards are supplied pre-finished in a choice of 8 different colours – from coastal whites, through blue-greys, to rich chocolate browns. These colours have been specially formulated to highlight the pronounced grain and beautiful figuring of the oak whilst providing appealing variations in tone between the horizontal scores, brushed springwood and harder summer wood.

We spent a great deal of time investigating wooden flooring suppliers and were immediately impressed with the superb quality and diversity of the products available from Russwood. Perhaps just as importantly, the team were wonderful to deal with; the depth of their knowledge, helpfulness, professionalism and friendliness helped make the project possible.
