Chevron flooring, sometimes called French Herringbone, is a laying style commonly used with parquet boards. Russwood's Chevron flooring is supplied pre-cut at a 45 degree angle for both left and right components, and tongue and grooved on the long side of the boards to create a 'V' shape pattern. Chevron boards are solid oak and available either pre-finished or unfinished.
All our pre-finished chevron boards are supplied pre-finished with Osmo Polyx® Hardwax oil in a choice of 9 different colours – from white, through honeyed golden tones to rich shades of ebony. Before being oiled, boards can be smoked; this process adds rich, deep variations of colour to the palette, providing another 6 colour options. View these colours by referring to 'brushed' and '17th Century' options within our Flooring Colour Guide.
Our pre-finished Chevron flooring comes in both brushed and 17th century effect:
Our unfinished chevron flooring requires a light sand after fitting before being finished on site by a professional and will create a beautiful and timeless look for any domestic or commercial project.
We recommend finishing your unfinished chevron floor with an Osmo Polyx® Hardwax Oil. Doing so will provide long-lasting protection whilst increasing the floor's durability and stain-repelling properties. Due to the depth of penetration achieved, Osmo Polyx® Hardwax-Oil preserves the character and appearance of the wood and ensures that your floor is easy to clean and requires minimal maintenance. Osmo Polyx® Oil is widely regarded as the highest quality Hardwax-Oil on the market and is available to buy through our online shop. For a list of Osmo oil colours available please go to the flooring colour guide.
The alternative to hardwax-oil is a lacquer or oil-based system, which in our experience do not protect or enhance the natural beauty of the wood to the same extent as a hardwax-oil. In addition, chipping, scratching and cracking have traditionally caused issue when using these systems; issues which are not easily rectified without recoating the entire floor space. For further information on hardwax oil versus lacquer, and instructions on how to oil and maintain your floor, please go to Technical Support.
European Oak is widely considered to be the finest available worldwide due to it’s attractive colouring, figuring and durability properties. All Russwood oak flooring originates from the same highest quality raw material, making grade selection purely an aesthetic preference.
The Chevron flooring range is available in Character/Prime, Prime and Prime Plus grades, all of which feature boards that are carefully hand graded and selected to your specification, as outlined below.
This grade retains a rustic charm but the knots are much smaller than those featuring in a Character grade board. This is a great option for those who like the natural effect of the wood but prefer a slightly more uniform appearance.
Clean, contemporary and incredibly stylish. Each board has been carefully selected to ensure that the beautiful figuring of the wood is highlighted but, only small pre-filled and sanded knots are present.
In addition, we offer a Prime Plus grade where only exceptional boards with occasional pin knots are selected from our prime grade. This is a truly special product which is subject to raw material availability.
Chevron is available in solid oak and comes in the following standard sized blocks;
20mm 1.32 TOG
