Owned by artist Anne Benson and her husband, Dall Mill has long been a working building, first as a water mill and latterly as a sawmill. Casa Architects were brought in to restore the mill and create extra space with a new extension, which takes the form of a sawmill kiln.

The refurbished mill now provides accommodation on two levels, serviced by a lift, making the space more convenient for the owner and visitors with disabilities. The extension was clad with SILA A/B®, vacuum coated in light grey (RAL7038) and rough sawn, adding a texture and grain that suits the industrial aesthetic of the building.

Internally, the clients opted for Russwood’s brushed single smoked oak flooring. Brushed flooring has the surface spring wood brushed away, revealing the textured grain of the summer wood beneath. It lends a vintage look that sits beautifully with the weathered exterior.

“Russwood products are recognised as the best on the market, but it’s the service that makes the difference,” said the client. “They have the knowledge and expertise to guide us to a solution that perfectly fits the project.” Colin Smith, Casa Architects.
