Oaklands residential property is a triumph of imagination, bringing together two contrasting but harmonious designs. The front of the property is a modern twist on the traditional 1960s bungalow which previously stood on site, its hipped roof extended to include large gables and the exterior recladded. Entirely disguised by the more traditional frontage, the rear of the home is large, striking and contemporary, opened up with 13m wide floor to ceiling glazed sliding doors and windows, offering uninterrupted views of the garden and lakes.

The finished design, by Azure Architecture, doubles the internal space of the property without increasing the overall footprint or height. Throughout the build, visual interest was created with the use of mixed width vertical cladding. The client selected Russwood Architect Select® Western Red Cedar in alternating sizes, vacuum coated with SiOO:X. SiOO:X utilises revolutionary silicate technology to offer timber with a consistently weathered appearance at an accelerated rate. Russwood has been appointed as premium UK specification partners in this innovative new technology.

“The selection of quality cladding materials was fundamental to deliver the design brief,” said the client. “I was looking for varied widths, sizes and weathering options. From research carried out with various suppliers, it was clear that Russwood, and in particular their experience using SiOO:X, were the best fit for the project.

“I found Russwood extremely competent and helpful to deal with. They clearly understand their products and provided technical support when required. They gave accurate lead in times that made planning the scheme more effective and avoided material storage issues.”
