On Pentland Avenue, Rory Gibson Architects have created a contemporary modern home that sits comfortably alongside its more traditional neighbours in the heart of suburban Edinburgh. Situated in leafy Colinton, Pentland Avenue is characterised by white rendered Victorian buildings made popular by 19th century architect Robert Lorimer. The challenge for Rory Gibson Architects was to respect that vernacular whilst creating a 21st century addition.

With its crisp white render and traditional shape, the new home nods to its more traditional neighbours, while the open plan layout and large glazed window panels add a contemporary twist. The architects liken the interior to ‘a white spatial sculpture’, though the overall effect is warmed by the addition of colourful artwork, tactile leather finishes and wood.

Russwood Chateau smoked engineered wood provides a high quality robust floor, with the smoked finish adding a domestic character to the modern living spaces. Russwood also supplied the nosing components to the stairs, which were specially designed to create a seamless finish, creating a harmonious family home.
