Set in the picturesque Ury Estate in rural Aberdeenshire, family homes don’t come much more picturesque than this.
The plot is framed by mature trees, and the house rests in a peaceful spot beside a large pond and stream. In any successful build it’s imperative that the built aesthetic complements and enhances the natural environment, and Garry Adam Architects have achieved this. With its gently stepped design and quality natural materials, the ‘Pond House’ is a respectful addition to the landscape, and looks all the more tranquil reflected on the neighbouring pond.
The client brief was to create a bespoke family home characterised by high quality and durable natural materials, and Garry Adam immediately thought of Russwood. "We have used the reliable high quality products from Russwood in numerous previous projects so we are confident specifying their products," he said. "Visits to the Russwood sawmill were particularly useful in making an informed decision on cladding materials based on actual weathered samples."
After their seeing the product range first-hand, the clients selected Russwood vacuum-coated Siberian larch, which provides an attractive and durable material for the external cladding. Inside, Chateau character flooring combines the warmth of wood with a contemporary finish befitting the overall design aesthetic. Russwood’s wide choice of timber had the extra advantage of allowing the clients to colour match the various wooden elements of the build, resulting in a minimal, harmonious palette.
